Precut Party!
Hello, and welcome once more to our newsletter. We hope this finds you in good spirits and good health.

Although quilters love a fat 1/4 (or 20), over the years many have discovered a love for the Precuts that come from Moda and other companies. Jelly rolls, layer cakes, honeybuns, charms and mini Charms give us an opportunity to have all of the designs and colours in a collection without having to spend a fortune on a whole fat 1/4 bundle. Perfect for varying sizes of projects from cushions and bags to large quilts, we love a Pre cut.

Today, Saturday 16th September, is International Jelly Roll day, created by Moda to celebrate this humble roll of loveliness. We think all pre cuts need a mention though and we have a 10% discount on all precuts, precut friendly patterns and pre cut books this week. Last week was all about international connections where as this week we have had a hand delivered order from Louise Nichols who lives not far from the shop. It was lovely to see her and she brought with her two new kits as well as more stock of best sellers.

Arriving from Italy was a delivery of the superb Aurifil Threads. Such a rainbow of colours for every conceivable use and fabric colour match. These threads have become a firm favourite with us at the shop. The large rolls contain 1300m of thread and seem to last forever!

As an extra thank you for all your custom we will gift a free Moda pattern to all orders of any pre-cuts. Moda have a delightful selection of free patterns online and we will print one suitable for the precut purchased. We know that many of you don't have the means to print at home so we will do it for you.

If you are new to Precuts they come in the following sizes and are made up of 40 or 42 pieces of the whole range of a fabric collection so there are some repeats in each.

Mini Charms are 2 1/2" squares
|
|
Layer cakes are 10" squares
|
|
Honeybuns are strips 1 1/2" wide x the width of fabric
|
|
Jelly Rolls are 2 1/2" wide x width of fabric
|
|
Dessert Rolls are 6" x width of fabric

We have a variety of patterns that use the pre cuts not only for quilts but bags, wall hangings, bowls and even rugs. The samples below are from top left clockwise -

We have a good selection of books that are written specifically for utilising jelly rolls, layer cakes, charms and mini charms. Full of beautiful patterns and handy hints and tips. If you have not worked with pre cuts before then these are a good starting point.

Local artist Louise Nichols makes these stunning lino-print designs that are then embellished with stitches, beads and felts. Each kit contains the printed background and most, except the wreath and robin panels, contain the threads and felts needed. There are two new kits, Snowdrops and Daffodils, that add to our already large selection. We have various bookmark kits, little wall hangings and decorations.

Sally has used one of the wreath panels as a centre to a cushion. We love what she has done with it. A happy marriage of the panel with Jolly Good mini charms and fabrics. The panel comes alone for you to add your own embellishments.

Aurifil is a family run Italian company based in Milan, specializing in the production of 100% Cotton threads from the Mako region of Egypt. The threads have achieved worldwide success due to their versatility, strength, and the fact that they produce virtually no lint.
|
We stock three different weight threads from Aurifil and also have packs of the Wool threads for two of our BOMs. The 50wt is perfect for piecing to give a smooth flat seam. The 40wt is good for quilting and embellishment whereas the 80wt is ideal for paper piecing and needle turn applique as it is finer and hides well. We are all converts to these super threads.

The threads are available individually or in Colour Builder boxes of three coordinating shades. We now have two new boxed sets from Aurifil, Necessities which is a great everyday mix of black, natural white, beige and grey, and excellent value, saving £4 on buying them individually. A brighter collection has been made to celebrate the 85th Birthday of Kaffe Fassett - 85 and Fabulous.
