Fabrics and panels for children

Our main arrivals this week have been beautiful soft patterned flannel fabrics just perfect for making cosy bedding for a baby or child. Winter Days is adorned with bears, birds and flowers in gentle blues, greys and lilacs. We are all vying for the chance to use them. In the same box were the Snowy Brook fabrics. Lovely shimmery accent fabrics. So with new ranges we got busy rearranging our existing stock of fabrics and we showcase some of them below. They include other children's fabrics plus panels that make quick quilts, bags and cushions.

We also received the first part of a large order of patterns from Australia including Journey of a Quilter by Leanne's House, Pocket and Floss linen bunnies from Melly and Me, and Duck Duck Goose by Meags & Me. These are highlighted below and we will show the rest once the second box arrives with us.

There are two local exhibitions worth a visit if living or holidaying here in mid Cornwall.
One is a Quilt and Textile Show at St Stythians Church Stithians TR3 7DH. It will run 10:30-4:30 each day, Saturday May 27th - Monday May 29th, over the Whitsun Bank Holiday Weekend. Only £2 entry and there are stalls, a raffle and light refreshments, run by our lovely Mary.

The other is only on for another two days at Truro Cathedral Saturday 10 -4pm and Sunday 1130-4pm. To celebrate its 50th anniversary and to showcase its members’ skills, West Country Embroiderers is exhibiting embroideries of the South West coast path from its start in Dorset, around Devon and Cornwall and finishing at the Devon/Somerset border on the north coast. Members from across the organisation have embroidered 166 panels to illustrate landmarks along the path, using any stitching technique they wish. The exhibition will go to the Dorset Arts and Crafts Association in August and The Gallery Upstairs in Poole in October.

As always, enjoy your sewing and have a wonderful week.
Best wishes

Winter Days Flannels

Look at these scrumptious flannels from Robert Kaufman ready to make a snuggly quilt for baby. There are two free patterns using this range on the Robert Kaufman site. Click on the photo for details. We also think it would look gorgeous made into a super soft raggy quilt or Tim's Things Quilt. The centre blocks could be fussy cut images with the other prints as the surrounds. Simple but effective piecing.

Blues and creams with a hint of gold or silver shimmer. We can see these being useful in Christmas projects or to add dimension in sea or sky themed quilts.

Gorgeous Patterns and Kits

A quick look at three of our favourite patterns that have popped back in to the shop.

Journey of a Quilter by Leanne's House - A scrappy quilt inspired by the quote “I have stitched, formed friendships, laughed, shared secrets, eased burdens and learnt lessons. For this I can be grateful. This is the journey of a quilter.” Although the original is made from scraps we have made a very beautiful fabric kit . We are all tempted to buy one.

Duck, Duck Goose - Meags and Me - This beautiful quilt is made with simple piecing and applique designs with flowers & adorable ducks & geese, perfect for a special little person. Kits are available for the whole mini quilt or a cushion using two of the blocks.

Pocket and Floss are Bunny Buddies from Melly and Me. Made from linen, osnaburg or Tilda doll fabric.

Heather and Sage Fabric

We end this newsletter with the beautiful Heather and Sage range. We have seen the safe return of swifts and swallows this past week and they can be seen darting around on this range too. There is an accompanying panel too. Some have used the panel for the basis of a quilt and others as cushion or bag fronts or wall hangings with simple embroidered details to enhance the images.
