Pocketing Memories Workshop with Vicki Aimers-POSTPONED

15th September @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

‘Pocketing Memories’ – Making a beautiful tie on pocket inspired by memories and stories

A unique workshop creating your own ‘tie-on-pocket’; informed by the female fashion of the 1700s and incorporating your stories and memories.

On our day together, we will also make some small sewing items, such as a heart shaped pin cushion and a needlecase for our pocket, inspired by letters of love and friendship.

You may want to bring along a selection of your own favourite fabrics, buttons and lace. In addition, you may also want to bring some letters as inspiration.”

A kit is available for the workshop for £7 each & can be purchased from Vicki on the day, but please let us know when you book if you need one. This would include…
a pre-cut pocket (from heavy weight calico)
a pre-cut liner (from a lighter weight calico).
a length of cream woven tape (so they could tie it around their waist)
A small amount of cream bias binding (for the top edging of the pocket)
A pre-cut ‘love letter’ inspired unsewn needlecase made from heavy weight calico (to be embellished and sewn together on the day)
Any paper templates (for further pockets and for the small letter style needlecase and heart pincushion they can make on the day for their pockets) and also any handouts explaining more about the history of the garment

Vicki Aimers is a Mixed Media Artist who was born in Essex and moved to Cornwall in the early 2000s to study at Cornwall College. She is always inspired by her immediate surroundings, domesticity being a constant element in her work. The theme of ‘home’ reoccurs in her pieces; as she questions what it means to her and past generations.  We’re excited to have Vicki as one of our guest tutors.
