Mindful Months Ahead

We are feeling and seeing Autumn more each day here. Leaves are falling and showing their multitude of colours, rich russets, reds and ochres and there are abundant harvests of black purple sloes and ruby red haws, delicious apples and scarlet rosehips. We have plenty of autumnal patterns from Kathy Schmitz, The Birdhouse, Bunny Hill and Lynette Anderson to welcome in this season of change.

Last week we took a look at some slow stitching projects and this week we have more to keep you busy as we cosy up. Beautiful mindful Mandalas and Sashiko Panels to hand stitch while settled down in front of a fire, to take on holiday or even on a daily commute or lunch break. We also have mandala inspired embroidery kits from Love From Beth in cheerful colours to bring us warmth on dreary days. The kits include all the threads but if you choose a panel then we have a large range of DMC stranded cottons and Perle threads that are perfect for the job.

Mary and Sally have been thinking ahead past Autumn and have been busy putting together this years Advent Boxes. Filled with lots of sewing treats and four new projects to keep you smiling and sewing each day. There is a limited quantity of these beautiful boxes created with love.

New arrivals have come in from Liberty fabrics. Beautiful 100% Lasenby Cotton quilting weight fabric in August Meadow blenders and three Extra Wide backing fabrics. These Liberty quilting cottons are such high quality and a delight to work with.

Being huge Tilda fans here we couldn't wait to make fabric packs for the new festive patterns using the Hibernation range. We have two different cushion packs and three quilt packs available to tempt you!

So much inspiration and ideas it's hard to know where to start first!

As always, we wish you a very lovely week and are looking forward to helping you with all your sewing needs.
Best wishes

Autumnal Patterns

Pumpkins, falling leaves, squirrels collecting acorns, ripe apples and rich Autumn colours of reds, yellows and orange = delicious seasonal inspiration. There are smaller stitchery projects and larger quilts and block of the months to keep you busy.

Sashiko and Mandala Panels

The epitome of slow stitching and mindfulness are mandalas and Sashiko. We have two different Mandala panels on natural coloured linen blend and two Sashiko panels on navy available. We also have the natural Devonstone linen blend that is used for all our preprinted stitchery panels. perfect for creating your own designs or to match up with the panels.

Mandala is Sanskrit for “circle” or “discoid object,” and is a geometric design that holds a great deal of symbolism in many cultures. Mandalas are believed to represent different aspects of the universe and can be used as instruments of meditation. They are often very colourful representing the colours of nature and the seven chakras. Our panels can be simply stitched with back stitch or running stitch or filled with satin stitch.

Sashiko is an traditional Japanese embroidery style which dates back 400 years. It was mostly used by the working class to make stronger more practical workwear. A worn-out piece was stitched with layers of old cloth, producing a sturdy garment passed down through generations. The Japanese word sashiko translates to English as little stabs, a reference to the simple running stitch used to create the geometric patterns. Many people like their sashiko to look 'traditional' and usually choose cream thread and indigo fabric, whereas in Japan this looks a bit 'old fashioned', so different coloured fabrics and threads are becoming more popular.

    Love From Beth Embroideries

These colourful kits are based on Mandala designs. The kits contain the preprinted image plus all the threads, full instructions, stitching guide, hoop, needle, backing felt and thread organisers.

Designed for any skill level, the kits use a range of basic embroidery stitches, all of which are explained with full illustrations. They also have a recommended order of stitching. You can, of course use the printed base and experiment with stitching your piece however you want to. Along with the stitch guide there are also instructions on how to frame and finish your piece.

    Thread Heaven

We have an extensive range of threads in stock including DMC stranded cotton and Perle threads from both DMC and Anchor. We sell the DMC stranded cottons individually and also make up packs to accompany many of our patterns.

The stranded cottons are made up of 6 strands of thread that can be split to make finer work. Most patterns use two strands of thread so they are an economical thread to use. The Perle threads come in a few weights or thicknesses. We use the 12 weight for fine work and the thicker 8 weight for more definition. The 8 is particularly good for working with wools and wool felt, and would also look great used in the mandala and sashiko panels embroideries.

    Liberty Lushness

Look at these beautiful Liberty extra wide backing fabrics and August Meadow Blenders. Both are made of 100% Lasenby quilting weight Cotton, not the Liberty Lawn fabrics. They are high quality and are a dream to work with.
