Dresses, tops and butterfly wings!
With the Great British Sewing Bee well under way, it is fortuitous timing that we have received a delivery of dress making patterns. The iconic Merchant and Mills patterns are back in stock along with some new ones from them and other designers. We have patterns for tops, dresses, trousers and dungarees.
|
As if by magic, at the same time we have new bolts of both our cotton linen blends and the sumptuous Sligo Linens. These are all perfect for our dress making patterns and the popular Artisan Aprons from Janet Clare. We are often asked whether our quilting weight cottons are suitable for dress making and absolutely they are. Many of us have used Tilda, batik, Kaffe and others for our own makes that include dresses, trousers, jackets and kimonos.

New in from Kaffe Fassett are jelly rolls, layer cakes and charm packs in three colourways. Rainbow, Vineyard and Lake. We have also had a bolt of Kaffe Fassett design wall. A gridded flannel that allows you to arrange your blocks to determine the best layout.
|
For children, or our own inner child, we have patterns to make 'wings'. Butterfly, bumblebee and dragon/bat. Ideal for dressing up for parties and festivals. There are also a couple of dress patterns that would look lovely in the linens or patterned cottons.

From America we have several patterns for tops, dungarees and dresses. All have a variety of options to personalise your make with buttons, pockets or various hem and sleeve lengths. They are available in a range of sizes. Check individual patterns for details but there are US sizes 0-28, UK 4-32.

Handy when dress making is a bar of good quality Tailor's Chalk or other marking pens or pencils. Plus some patterns call for interfacing of which we have several different weights, depending on what is required.

These simple but stylish patterns have several variations within each pattern, options for different sleeve lengths, necklines etc. They come in sizes 6-18 and the new Etta wrap dress also comes in size 18 to 28. Often made in plain colours and linens, they also look good in patterns especially the Japanese wovens. We have several samples in the shop including the Camber dress and the trapeze dress.

Sligo linen or ramie is a soft prewashed and preshrunk fabric that has a slight textured and closely woven finish and is delightful to work with. Native to China, ramie is a linen-like fibre made from nettles and which is classified as a cellulose fiber, just like cotton, linen and rayon. Ramie fibers comes from the stem of a nettle plant called China grass (Boehmeria nivea). It looks similar to European nettle but it does not have prickles & is twice as strong as linen. This fabric is perfect for many uses, especially some wonderful projects including clothes & home decor and is available in a wide range of colours.

Kaffe Fassett Design wall is a grey gridded flannel to hold your patches in place while you work on your layout and patchwork blocks. The grey provides a neutral ground for all hues and tones. You can buy in multiples of 25cm to make the wall to your required size.

We also have three delicious precut variations, Rainbow, Vineyard and Lake. Each colour way is available as 5" or 10" charm packs and jelly rolls.
