Coast & Country Crafts and Quilts Newsletter

Keeping Buzzy!

We are enjoying many walks in the sun of late and can't help but hear and see all the wonderful birds and bees flying around and so we decided that this week our newsletter takes a closer look at the products we stock that celebrate these beautiful creatures. Many of our pattern and fabric designers use our winged friends as inspiration. We have kits from Louise Nichols and Nancy Nicholson, patterns and fabrics from Lynette Anderson, Gail Pan, Janet Clare and Natalie Bird that are bird and bee themed as well as other beautiful fabrics and buttons.
We have become aware that the 30th July is World Embroidery Day so watch out for more news in our next newsletters and on social media about how we will be celebrating this diverse and exciting craft. So many different styles to learn and master.
Tell us about your favourite embroidery projects and styles. Email us photos to use on our gallery. Be proud of what you have made.
Have a lovely week, stay cool in this heatwave and as always, Happy Stitching
Best wishes

Bird Fabric

There is an aviary of bird fabric available for many different projects. Bright festive birds from our Christmas Morning range. Soft and gentle birds on branches from the Little Fawn collection. Ditsy birds from The Birdhouse range Blume and Grow.

In a more French inspired collection from 3 Sisters is Daybreak featuring birds resting in elegant foliage, and from our very own British designer, Janet Clare, comes her Botanicals range of muted charcoals, greys and off white, featuring abstract patterns and beautiful floral and bird illustrations.

Sally has made a beautiful quilt using the Botanicals range and the Days in Provence quilt pattern, embellished with bird embroideries from Janet Clare's A Field Guide. See it in all it's glory on disply in the shop or if a visit is too far then see the details on our Blog

Where would we all be without bees? Did you know that it is possible for forager bees to fly about 3 miles for food, however an average distance would be less than a mile from the hive. A strong colony therefore flies the equivalent distance from Earth to the Moon everyday.
The normal top speed of a worker would be about 15-20mph (21-28km/h) when flying to a food source and about 12mph (17km/h) when returning with nectar, pollen, propolis (resin collected from tree buds) or water.
So let us celebrate these amazing little powerhouses and using them in our work.

Birds and Bees buttons

In stock we have a wide selection of bird and bee related buttons to add a lovely detail to your projects.
We have a large variety of hand painted wooden buttons that include Sea birds and coloured birds from House on the Hill, plus birds and bees from Lynette Anderson and The Bee Company. We also have packs of buzzing bees from Dress it Up Buttons.

Lynette Anderson often uses birds and bees in her designs. Bird in a Basket combines English paper piecing, applique, 3d flowers and embroidery come together to make this very pretty pillow.

In a Garden Zippered Pouch a pretty combination of birds, bees and buttons.

Nancy Nicholson has many bird designs in her embroidery kits. Each kit has full instructions, a pre printed panel and all the threads. Birdie 1, 2, 3 and 4 kits are suitable for all levels and are a quick make as a gift. Love Bird Embroidery makes either a cushion or a wall hanging or even a centre of a larger project.

Beehive Embellished Lino Print is one of our favourite kits, full of life and the smaller Bee Bookmark makes us want to open a book so we can use it!
