Coast & Country Crafts and Quilts Newsletter

Happy Birthday to us!
Hello lovely customer. This coming week sees Coast and Country celebrating another birthday. Even though we are no longer trading as a physical shop it is still a cause for celebration as we realise how wonderful it is that we are still able to offer a more personal service than many other online outlets. We want to say a big thank you to all of our customers, old and new, who keep us going, all be it in a different capacity than this time last year. What a year it has been!
|
As a thank you to everyone, this week we are offering a free birthday gift to everyone who places an order over £35. Lovely Mary, who worked with us for many many years, has designed a cute pattern that we have made up as a kit that includes the pattern, fabric and wadding.
|
New arrivals this week have been an absolutely stunning new book from Edyta Sitar. Pillow Talk is filled with patterns for beautiful cushions using various techniques and a dynamic colour placement. Also new in and sure to be popular as gifts for yourselves and others are two new scissor sets from Klasse.
|
We have more pre printed stitchery panels from The Birdhouse including A Letter to my Daughter, Heartstrings and Willowbrook. These are a fantastic way to get going on a project quickly without having to trace a pattern. They can be used to create a full quilt or smaller individual projects like wall hangings, cards, bags or cushions.
|
To accompany the book and the panels we want to remind you of fabrics, threads and essentials that could be useful for your projects. These include our Tilda chambrays and solids, Makower Linen Textures and other texture plain fabrics like Thatched, Chalk and Charcoal, Cottage Cloth and Peppered Cottons. So many delicious colours.
|
|
As a small business every sale and interaction really does make a difference to us. Thank you always for your support and custom. We enjoy chatting with you online and over the phone, helping you to get the right fabrics and threads for your projects, and hope to see many of you in person at the various events coming up.

With our Very Best wishes Sally & Michelle x

Look at these divine cushion patterns! This book from Edyta Sitar is jammed full of 25 projects and is plumped full with inspiration, like the squidgiest plumpest plump cushion! Hehe.

Edyta Sitar has used a beautiful colour palette of plains, chambray and textured solids to make the cushions and we have some inspiration for fabrics below if you want to create a similar look.

Of course, you can use your intuition for colours and fabrics. In her introduction, Edyta Sitar states “Play around with colour and print choices…..use your favourite batiks, modern or traditional prints. Do not feel boxed in by the colours you see here. My main goal in Pillow Talk is for you to infuse these pillows with your touch, style and personality, so your pillows will reflect your love of your stash. “

We like to use a lightweight interfacing behind any embroidery and stitchery panel. It helps to hide any threads running behind and also makes the fabric more stable and less likely to pucker when being stitched. These two are both fusible and soft to use.

Of course if you are stitching the panels you need quality stranded cotton. We stock DMC in 100s of colours. Available singly and in colour coordinated packs. The Super Duper DMC Deluxe packs are a money saving option if you need to build your stash quickly and they include bobbin cards to keep them tidy. Each thread is made of six strands and are usually used separated into two or three strands.

Tilda Solids and Tilda Chambrays come in a vast array of colours. The solids are exactly as they sound. Solid plain colours. The chambrays are a looser weave and give a faded soft look to any project even with the stronger colours. Both are good for the Edyta Sitar Pillow Talk book above.

Not easy to see here but the Tilda Dove White fabric would make a great background for the Edyta Sitar cushions. It is a warm off white and extremely versatile.

With a slightly grunge look this Moda Textile Pearl fabric would make an interesting warm background for the cushions and any stitchery project.

Makower Linen Texture have always been a popular choice for quilters. They come in lots of shades and give the look of linen but are a closely woven quilting weight cotton.

These gorgeous scissors arrived this week and we have already been informed that no more are available from our supplier until March next year! Available as just the Dressmaker Shears or as a set with Embroidery Scissors too, they are absolutely beautiful in a rich red finish. Definitely some are making their way home with us!
