Coast & Country Crafts and Quilts Newsletter

Bowled over .....

I am writing this newsletter while nursing myself through a lurgy realising that the subject matter is very pertinent as I am indeed feeling ropey! Nothing awful but I am taking it easy so this newsletter may be a little briefer than usual.

We decided that this week we would take a look at baskets, bowls and the use of rope in creating them. Rope is not a product that you would expect a sewing shop to sell but we love what you can create with it. Sally has even filmed a free tutorial that shows you exactly how to make a rope bowl. It is available on our You Tube Channel and it's spurred me on to making a bowl or ten as gifts for Christmas.

Halloween is just a few weeks away but there is still time to make things for the celebrations. We have plenty of witchy fabrics and even a panel to make party decorations if you are hosting a spooky get together.

Thank you for your friendship and custom. It is our pleasure to provide a more personal service for our customers and we look forward to helping you choose the right products and fabrics for your projects.
With our Very Best wishes

We have had a new delivery from Love From Beth and included in it were more of her lovely basket and bowl patterns, and the inspiration behind this weeks theme. In the first photos are the Pumpkin Bag - perfect to make for Halloween, Trinket Bowls and Project Baskets.
In the second photo are the hanging Bubble Pods, Giant Bubble Pods and the Rainbow Basket.
We have two new additions to our range as well. The Angel Basket and the Honeycomb Basket. Useful storage to make for your crafting space.
Look at these gorgeous bowls made by Sally using our Sash Cord. A thin cotton rope with a polypropylene core that makes incredibly sturdy baskets and bowls. Sally has created a video tutorial of how to make these handy bowls and you can watch it on our You Tube Channel and the link is on the project page for the Sash Cord and in our Blog. Click on the photo to take you to the Blog Page.

We also sell the 100% cotton Clothesline cord. This is softer and can be used for a softer bowl but more especially for the Bali Bag Pattern from Aunties Two shown in the photo. This bag can also be made using strips of Fusible Wadding.
For those who celebrate Halloween or have little ones that Trick or Treat, we have a selection of Autumnal and Halloween fabrics that would make great Pumpkin Bags as shown above in the Love From Beth section.

We also have just a few of the Little Witch Party Panels to make Halloween Party Decorations
Not the most exciting of photos but a very necessary part of any sewing kit. Machine needles come in a variety of sizes and for a variety of uses. Each has a slightly different eye or point depending on what they are used for. Quilting Needles are tapered slightly to go through multiple layers, Microtex Needles have a sharper acute point for precision piecing and beautiful top stitching whereas Universal needles are slightly rounded at the point. For the rope bowls we recommend at least a 75/11 or above.
If you live in Cornwall or are visiting there are plenty of events coming up in October.

The Helford Artists Collective are a vibrant group of female artists who live and work along the picturesque Helford River. In this show, five of the founding members – painters Karen Hemsley-Biggs and Sophie Velzian, mixed media artist Kathy Warren, textile artists Sue Spence and Fiona Pullen will be exhibiting their work, and in the gallery at various times. The exhibition is free to view in the Trebah Garden gallery space.
Fiona Pullen (Fee) is also running free informal Sketching Sessions in the gardens every Monday 10:30am -11.30am & 2pm – 3pm through October starting Monday 6th & Stitching Sessions in the Gallery every Wednesday 10:30am – 11:30am & 2pm -3pm throughout October starting Wednesday 8th.
Trevithick Quilters have their Patchwork and Quilting Exhibition at Centenary Chapel, Camborne from Thursday 16th October to Saturday 18th October 10am - 4pm daily. It is always heartwarming and inspiring to see what others have created.
We are delighted to invite you to the Autumn Get Together on
Tuesday 28th October 2025
Stithians Centre 10.00 am to 3.30 pm.

At the last gathering we had a perfect day with friendship, sewing, tea and cakes, so why not join us this time. As before there will be a new pattern included for you to choose either an Autumn or Christmas theme. Sneak peek photos are below to tease and tempt you.

Sally will be bringing a pop up shop full of goodies so you can shop before, during and after the event. This will also be open to anyone not attending the workshop between 11am and 3pm to give those attending the workshop a chance to settle first. There is no charge if you're just popping in to shop.

The cost for the whole day including the pattern, a cuppa or two and a biccie (or maybe even cake) is £15

Numbers are limited so if you would like to join in please contact Mary on smvague@gmail.com for booking details

We would love to see as many of you as possible whether it is for the workshop or just to pop in for a browse. If there is anything you want in particular please call or email to let us know so we can pack accordingly.
Also at the event will be Emma Gunn and her daughter Lowen who will be selling their plants and pots. Lowen is an entrepreneur at just 10 years old and takes after her green fingered mum.
