Kathi and Kathy ----

Brrrrrr, anyone else feeling the nip and chill of October? Only on Tuesday I was enjoying a lovely walk in the sun. We even sat for a few hours chatting, having a picnic and arrived home sun kissed and warmed through. Now with Storm Amy making an appearance that seems such a long time ago. We trust that you are all safely snuggled up and enjoying some creative sewing time. It is definitely a blustery day here in Cornwall. I feel a snuggly hand stitching afternoon in front of a black and white film may be in order!

This week we received lots of beautiful patterns from two of our favourite designers, Kathi Campbell of Heart to Hand and Kathy Schmitz. Kathi Campbell is known for her folk style and use of wool, felt and flannel for her designs. From festive Santas and snowmen to cuddly animals. Kathy Schmitz is a prolific designer of stitcheries, especially those celebrating the seasons, Christmas and the natural world. We have many of her favourites back in stock including the gorgeous booklet Simply Sweet. We are also very happy to have some new additions to our range including two pouches and new stitchery Sampler patterns Quilt, Noel and Garden.

We have also been informed about two local exhibitions upcoming. Helford Artists Collective are exhibiting at Trebah Garden from October 4th - November 2nd. Trevithick Quilters have their patchwork and quilting exhibition at Centenary Chapel, Camborne from Thursday 16th -Saturday 18th October. Our lovely Fee is also hosting some free drop in sessions at Trebah on Mondays and Wednesdays for sketching and sewing. Full details for all of these are below.

A reminder that we have another gathering hosted by our lovely Mary. This will be an Autumn Get Together at the Stithians Centre on October 28th. The day will include a pattern, hot drinks and cake. Sally will be bringing along a pop up shop of goodies too. See below how to register for the workshop and for further information. If you are unable to attend the whole day, just pop in for free to browse the shop and say hello.

Thank you for your friendship and custom. It is our pleasure to provide a more personal service for our customers and we look forward to helping you choose the right products and fabrics for your projects.
With our Very Best wishes

These four new delightful patterns from Kathy Schmitz are in stock. Two stitchery samplers, Quilt and Garden, for the stitcher and green fingered amongst us. Plus the gorgeous High Park Farm pouch with its applique bird and berries, and My Little Project Nest to make a project purse and a thread pouch. It comes with a full alphabet so you can personalise it for yourself or to give to someone else.
Festive fun from Kathy Schmitz includes the Scented Bowlies. Stitch and then fill with your favourite Christmas herbs and spices, cloves, cinnamon etc. I was gifted one two years ago and it is divine when I put it out for the festivities. It immediately feels like Christmas. There are also the Deck the Halls little stitchery images to use for decorations or a garland, and a new pattern, the Noel Sampler.
This Simply Sweet booklet always flies out when we restock it. Filled with 64 pretty miniature embroidery designs that can be utilised in many ways but don't they look pretty as a hanging in the big picture and as centerpieces for pincushions?
The Season Samplers have been a staple for several years for us. We each made a sample for the shop and really enjoyed using variegated thread for them.
If you are embarking on the stitchery patterns then you need a good supply of DMC threads to give you a good range of colours. We sell this high quality colourfast stranded cotton in a huge array of colours. You can specify a particular one from the colour chart image on the DMC page or we can make a suggestion for you. We also have various coordinating DMC thread packs and a bargain Super Duper DMC Lucky Dip Delight which contains a selection of 20 skeins that work out at just £1 each instead of £1.55.
The stranded cottons are an economical way to stitch. Consisting of 6 strands of cotton, they can be used as a whole but are usually split into 2 or 3 strands to create finer stitching and are easier to work with. Making an 8m skein the equivalent of 16 or 24m.
For the Sampler stitcheries, Kathy Schmitz has mainly used variegated threads and we have the DMC coloris threads in various colour combinations, but we also have the DMC variegated in shades of reds, blues, greens, yellows, browns etc. Just drop us a note on your order and we will find one that goes well with your chosen pattern. You may need two skeins to finish your project.
Cotton Perle threads come as solid or variegated threads. These are not stranded and are designed to be used as they are without splitting them like the stranded cottons. Available in different thicknesses with 12 being the finest and 5 being the heaviest. These are good for stitching and also quilting.
Who can resist these cute critters designed by Kathi Campbell? Quirky naive style stuffed animals with tons of character. Why not make a whole zoo of them......

Also from Kathi Campbell at Heart to Hand are these festive patterns. The Clothesline series has been very popular. They are Wall hangings to peg up but they can always have a sleeve added and hung on a wire hanger, stick or dowel. The Merry Merry Wall hanging also includes a pattern to make the freestanding Santa figure.
A perfect way to display your stitcheries and mini quilts. Wire hangers come in a large range of sizes and designs from festive snowmen to loving hearts.
Our woolfelt is prefect for using for the Kathi Campbell designs. Available by the long 1/4 or in colour coordinated packs.
Our plain natural linen/cotton blends make lovely stitchery backgrounds for the Kathy Schmitz designs.
If you live in Cornwall or are visiting there are plenty of events coming up in October.

In this show, five of the founding members – painters Karen Hemsley-Biggs and Sophie Velzian, mixed media artist Kathy Warren, textile artists Sue Spence and Fiona Pullen will be exhibiting their work, and in the gallery at various times. The exhibition is free to view in the Trebah Garden gallery space.
Fiona Pullen (Fee) is also running free informal Sketching Sessions in the gardens every Monday 10:30am -11.30am & 2pm – 3pm through October starting Monday 6th & Stitching Sessions in the Gallery every Wednesday 10:30am – 11:30am & 2pm -3pm throughout October starting Wednesday 8th.
Trevithick Quilters have their Patchwork and Quilting Exhibition at Centenary Chapel, Camborne from Thursday 16th October to Saturday 18th October 10am - 4pm daily. It is always heartwarming and inspiring to see what others have created.
