Flowers galore -
Good day. How are things with you? I am sure you have all had the rain that we have and things are a little cooler now. The combination of rain and sun has had an amazing impact on gardens and crops everywhere. From my desk I can see a myriad of flowers, trees and shrubs to brighten up my day, montbretia's bright orange flowers, the beautiful lilac of the buddleia, complete with butterflies and bees, the dancing ballerina flowers of a fuchsia, a copper acer and a glorious ash tree to name but a few.
With gardens to the front of my mind I decided to take a look at the beautiful floral offerings that we have here. The bright and bold, and the ditsy pastel fabrics. Pretty floral patterns, kits, buttons and paper templates. So many lovely things to keep us busy. Now is a good time to grab a kit to sew in the garden. Some of our customers have designed their own stitcheries from photos. A lovely idea. Of course we have plenty of ready made patterns to save you the inconvenience!
There are still a few places left for the sewing day with Mary on the 29th July. We have also received details of a local quilt show that is taking place in August and share the information for both of them below.

Thank you for your support. It is our pleasure to provide a more personal service for our customers and we look forward to helping you choose the right products and fabrics for your projects.

Gorgeous floral embroidery kits from Beaks and Bobbins above, and Hannah Burbury below. Each kit comes with detailed instructions and everything needed to create a stunning embroidery, threads, needles, embellishment and printed fabric or felt. You will need additional fabrics to finish the Beaks and Bobbins kits to create a border for a hanging or use as a centre of a cushion for example. The Hannah Burbury kits have everything included to create a finished product except the scissors.

There is so much abundance around us at the moment with lots of free and nutritious food to forage everywhere, but sometimes we may need a little help with identifying any other than blackberries. This book fits the bill.

The summer edition of the Never Mind the Burdocks foraging series by Emma Gunn (my clever sister!) is a handy-sized guide for beginners to expert foragers of all ages.
This book includes an edible item for every day, including anecdotes, recipes, lookalikes and plenty more information, such as historical use. The summer edition focuses on edible flowers in the back pages and all books have a ruler on the back cover to check shellfish are large enough for collecting and mushroom sizes to aid identification.

We love a good Dresden Plate template project. They create such beautiful floral designs from fabrics. You can use them so each petal is the same, even fussy cutting the fabric to make sure each is identical. Or make them from your stash bits or our scrap bags using a variety of fabrics in each 'flower'.
A simple quilt can be made with placing a Dresden plate in the centre of a square and joining with other blocks, either alternating a Dresden block with a simple square of fabric or by having a Dresden in each square. A great way to use up bits and pieces.

Buttons come in such a wide range of colours and designs. They give a simple yet effective embellishment to any project. The wooden buttons are not washable but are ideal for wall hangings and other items that wont be washed. The Kaffe Fasset buttons and the Dress it Up buttons are all washable so can be used for clothes and quilts that need to be washed. We have flowers, bees, ladybirds, strawberries, a watering can, a wheelbarrow and even a garden gnome!

Our Summer Get Together has been organised by our lovely Mary Vague.
Tuesday 29th July 2025 from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm at the Stithians Centre. £15 per person. As it is World Embroidery Day on the following day, Mary has designed a new hand stitched project especially for this event, ( a teaser photo is above), although you are welcome to bring your own project to work on if you prefer. Sally will also be bringing a pop up shop for your extra supplies so a great chance to fumble some fabrics and collect any online orders and have your postage refunded. Just add a note to your order to say you are collecting that day.
