Gorgeous Gail Pan
Welcome to our weekly catch up. We trust that this week has been kind to you and you have had sewing opportunities galore. Things have been busy for us with kit making, workshops and groups all filling our time at the shop. As well as helping customers in the shop, online, on the phone and fulfilling orders, there are always fat 1/4s to cut and tidy in the shop and for our online stock. Never a dull moment in our fabric haven.
Our main highlight though were the three days of workshops with Gail Pan. Wow! What can we say other than that? What a wonderful time we had with our Antipodean friend and all the amazing women who joined us to sit, sew, chat, laugh, learn. Gail was super generous, as always, with her time and knowledge. So many hints and tips for needle turn applique and embroidery and lots of laughter and hugs. We truly wish she lived closer as the rapport between us all was natural and flowing.
Now that the workshops are finished we can release Gail's new patterns and the kits we have made for them. All are shown below along with a return of some of her favourite designs. We will be busy making more kits over the coming week, so if you see one you like, then please pop your name on the waitlist, or give us a call and add a note on any pattern order that you would like a kit for, and we will let you know when they are ready.
Straight out the box and in the shop are more patterns from Love From Beth including a new quilt, Reef Block. We have plenty of her pod patterns back in stock too.
This week we also take a look at two of our other lovely workshop tutors, Becky De'Ath from Willow and Hare Stitching, and Louise Nichols. We have more workshops planned with our own in house tutors too so keep your eyes peeled for new dates.
We are sharing again the details of two local Quilt Exhibitions. One is this weekend, the other one in August. It is always an inspiring thing to see the work of other sewing and quilting groups and of course there is always tea and cake to sample!
We hope you have fabulous week ahead filled with creativity and joy. For anyone travelling to the Festival of Quilts this coming week, have a truly magical time.
We look forward to helping you with all things sewing related, and having a chat too!

Gail is one of the most warm and welcoming women you could wish to spend time with. She is very generous with sharing her knowledge and her ideas, and makes everything thing so much fun and is relaxed in her teaching style but everyone came away with new sewing tips even those who had sewn for decades. She left us with six lovely new patterns which we have made up kits for. Sally's Garden quilt - The Sweetest Song Wallhanging - Dilly Dally Bag - My Flowers Bag - Sing, Love, Laugh, Sew Bag - Garden Stitches Sewing Folder and Notebook Cover.

Thank you to Gail for all her time and enthusiasm despite a severe lack of sleep on arrival. Plus a big thank you to all the lovely ladies who joined us. Many of them proudly showed us what they had already made using Gail's patterns and the atmosphere was one of praise and encouragement all round.

Beth Studley of Love From Beth, creates such funky quilts and bright practical storage pods, baskets and bags. We also think that they are slightly addictive and the pods, bowls and bags make excellent gifts made to coordinate with any room.

If you like the look of the Gail Pan workshops, you may like some of our other events. We showcased some tutors last week and here are two more who are coming to teach. We also have the regular monthly groups to bring your own project and chat with other ladies who like to sew. There is always a lot of sharing and hint swapping and we are always on hand to help with any queries and provide drinks and biccies.

Becky De'Ath of Hare & Willow Stitching is making the long trip down to see us for a day on October 10th. Choose between her beautiful Needlebook or Notions Purse from Becky’s Running in the Meadow designs, which includes wool applique, embroidery, English Paper Piecing and other techniques. The class includes one pattern but you will be able to purchase the other one from Becky if you’d like to.
Becky has hand sewn and embroidered since she was a little girl, and fondly remembers sitting with her grandmother as she taught her different embroidery stitches. She uses a mixture of different types of fabric and hand dyed wool in her designs, to add both texture and depth. She loves to share her designs with others, and encourage the creativity and imagination in all of us.

Louise lives not too far from us at the shop and is a regular tutor for us with her lino printed designs, embellished with felt, fabric, ribbons, buttons and beads. If you are unable to make it to one of her wonderful workshops then we also sell some of her kits, sold as complete kits including embellishments, and also the panels alone for you to embellish with your own bits and pieces.
