Sunny greetings

Welcome once more to our weekly round up and chat about what is happening in our fabric heaven in Cornwall. We have been blessed this week to have seen many more faces, both locals and visitors. It's always good to put a face to a name. All of us here send little messages on orders, emails, or chat with you over the phone so it is lovely to see everyone in person. It's like greeting a good friend even if we've never met.

We have had lots of our regular ladies coming in too. Some are spending the day with us in their regular sewing groups or workshops, while others nip in for a quick fix of loveliness and a reel of thread. Often combined with a hug and a good catch up, sharing news, ideas and putting the world to rights. No one is merely a customer to us.

This week has also seen two arrivals from Australia. One was a large box of patterns from designers like Melly and Me, Rosalie Dekker/Quinlan, Leanne Beasley and Meags and Me. Plus, our highlight of the year, the delightful Gail Pan is back with us teaching over three days. Thankfully she arrived by plane and bus not in a box! We are truly honoured that she is with us. We will be adding her new patterns online once she has finished teaching and we have already been busy making up kits for them. There has already been lots of happy chatter and productivity during her classes.

We wanted to showcase some of our other tutors this week, including our very own Mary Vague who has been working at Coast and Country since Sally established the shop 14 years ago. There are lots of inspiring workshops to join, bag making, journal covers, machine embroidery and slow hand stitching. Something for everyone. Why not plan a break to join us if you live further afield?

Below are details of two upcoming local Quilt Exhibitions. One later this month, one in August. It is always good to see creativity and talent on display and connect with other likeminded stitchers.

We hope you have fabulous week ahead filled with creativity and joy.
We look forward to helping you with all things sewing related, and having a chat too!
Best wishes
Sally and the Girls
This is Cat Rowe in her home studio in Redruth, it's light, airy and full of fabric!
She has a BA in Art History and a MA in Illustration and loves telling stories through pictures. A self confessed home bird, Cat draws most of her inspiration from her home county of Cornwall, its magical coastline and landscape providing a never ending source inspiration and stories.
Cat is a wonderful tutor. She gently guides you with patience and inspiration to learn new skills and enable all to create a beautiful project. We are fortunate to have Cat delivering three workshops with us this year.
Slow Stitching: an exploration of mark making by hand. Be inspired by the simple yet beautiful stitching techniques of Indian Kantha, colours of Japanese Boro, quilting and simple embroidery stitches.
Textile Illustration - Turn a favourite view, landscape, seascape, or harbour scene into a fabric picture.
A Christmas Forest - Slow stitched Christmas Trees - Sustainable Christmas decorations using scraps and embellishments. A mindful upcycling workshop.
Look at these absolutely adorable patterns from 'Down Under'. A lot of the patterns we stock are from Australia, Gail Pan, Anni Downs, The Birdhouse, Lynette Anderson, all of whom we order from direct. For the other designers from the Southern Hemisphere, we order from a supplier as we don't want to miss out on these beauties. Melly and Me, Rosalie Decker/Quinlan, Meags & Me, Leanne Beasley of Leanne's House to name just a few of the Antipodean inspirations that have landed with us this week.
Mary, on the right in the photo, is our queen of detail and is seen here with Sally, the owner and founder of Coast and Country. Mary loves using every scrap and is amazing at adding little touches to projects that give them the WOW factor. She is full of hints and tips and is a wonderful tutor. Mary has two upcoming workshops. The gorgeous journal cover, that utilises a mini charm and the Ultimate Needle Case. There are many more workshops being planned though so keep an eye out.
Caroline Michelle has taught several times at the shop after relocating to Cornwall last year. Her free motion embroidery classes are always full of laughter and everyone comes out having acquired new techniques to apply at home. The photo collage below shows some of the results of customers from beginners classes. As you can see, everyone did brilliantly under the expert tuition of Caroline. Her step by step teaching builds confidence naturally.
For those who already used to free motion embroidery, or who have taken her beginner's class, there are classes to create more complex textile illustrations, including the detailed applique hoop pictures. Another workshop uses soluble fabric and wool to create textured pieces - this class is also suitable for beginners.
We have just received some additional panels unexpectedly. These were both extremely popular on first release. They are the Foxwood Panel from Makower and the Noah's Ark Book panel from Stacy Iest Hsu.
Don't forget to check out our Sale items. We have lots of end of rolls at reduced prices along with other sale items. There are several categories to choose from so there's something for everyone - Linen, Tilda, Janet Clare, Japanese Woven, Christmas, batik, children's.
