Queens of Shelf Filling!

Well hello once more. We hope you are smiling and having a great week. We have spent the past week busy cutting, and shuffling shelves and fabrics. We have finally got all the new Tilda Creating Memories cut and sent out and somehow found the space for all the bolts on the shelf. This now includes 7 new Tilda Chambrays that coordinate with the new range. There has been some more end of rolls created and we also have some Samples for sale, all to make room for the new stock.

We have even had to find room for Halloween and Christmas fabric that has arrived already but don't worry, we won't be showing that this week. It is only just midsummer after all! Talking of which, has anyone else found with the long days and light evenings, it has just been too tempting to stay up late and get up early to get some extra sewing done? Or is that just me?....

More current is a gorgeous new book from our favourite felt lady, Corinne Lapierre. A Year of Felt Decorations is set to be popular. Full of ideas for throughout the year. It is a compilation of all 30 projects from Fabulous Felt, and 7 projects from Twenty to Make: Felt Christmas Decorations.

We still have a couple of places on our Friday Gail Pan Day which is drawing ever closer. Plus there is space on other workshops over the next few months. It is worth booking early for workshops as if it is left too late we have to cancel due to low numbers. This week we had to cancel one workshop only to have ladies call up the next day asking for places.

A quick look this week at fat 1/4s and long 1/4s. We get asked often about how our fabric is cut so below is some useful info to help you out. We hope it gives clarity to make ordering easier. All fabrics are available as fat 1/4s or multiples of long 1/4s.

We hope you have a fabulous week and get to have plenty of sewing opportunities.
We look forward to helping you with all things sewing related.
Best wishes
Sally and the Girls
Australian designer, Gail Pan, comes to visit us next month on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Monday 22nd July. We still have space left on the Friday session and Gail has offered the chance of opting for any of her patterns on that day, so you can choose one project from any of the days she is here. Just in case your favourite is listed for a day that is now full. It really is worth coming along as she is such a great tutor and this is her last teaching trip to the UK. It is now or never!

We also have lovely workshops booked with our colleague, the lovely and talented Mary Vague, plus Cat Rowe, Caroline Michelle, Becky De'Ath and Louis Nichols. Please try to book in advance so that we can ensure the classes have enough to run. Last minute bookings can sometimes be accommodated but not if we have had to cancel due to low numbers.
We have lots of end of rolls on sale and more are being added each week as we make room for new stock. There are several categories to choose from so there's something for everyone.
We have a few sample pieces to sell to clear room in the shop and to raise money for Children's Hospice Southwest. There are also a few bits for sale in the shop as well if you pop in.
This new book from Corinne Lapierre is filled with projects for the whole year. Each of the 37 modern, Scandi-style projects contains colourful photographs, hand-drawn illustrations, clear instructions and templates to trace. Contained within are all the embroidery stitches you need, such as French knots and blanket stitch, along with all the key techniques, including using templates, appliqué and attaching hanging loops.
We have lots of other books using felt and we have our lovely woolfelt too.
The Creating Memories fabric from Tilda has flown out this week. We have had to cut more to keep up with demand. Then we had 7 bolts of coordinating Tilda Chambrays arrive. They are used in the free downloadable projects from Tilda's World. We have made up some fabric kits for those who have expressed an interest and will be making more so let us know if you're tempted by any and we will put a fabric pack together.
A fat 1/4 is basically a metre of fabric cut into four equal pieces. Think of a window or a square cake cut across the middle both ways. It is half of a half metre. In the UK we use metric fat 1/4s which are larger than the American or Australian fat 1/4s which are cut from a yard = 18" x 22".
At Coast and Country we cut our fat 1/4s ready for you to buy online. If you order multiple fat 1/4s of the same fabric, they are sent as individual fat 1/4s NOT as a continuous piece. For a continuous piece please order the long 1/4 option. See below.
A long 1/4 is a 25cm wide strip cut from selvedge to selvedge across the width of the fabric. Multiple long 1/4s are cut as a continuous length. So if you order 2 long 1/4s you will receive 1/2m, 3 long 1/4s = 75cm, 4 long 1/4s = 1m, 8 long 1/4s = 2m etc.
A fat 1/8 is half of a fat 1/4 so approximately 25cm x 56cm. We sell fat 1/8s in bundles not individually. This gives you a whole range of fabric in a more cost effective way.
