Boxes of Delight
Hello and a happy weekend to you. All of us at Coast and Country hope that this newsletter finds you in good spirits and that you are taking some time out for yourself to sit, read and drool over the new arrivals we have to show you this week. It really is like a birthday or Christmas every day at the shop. Even deliveries of humble embroidery threads make us smile. They are little jewels of loveliness and full of such potential. Intricate embroidery, big kantha stitches, cross stitch, even friendship braids. Then the patterns and new fabric ranges arrive and Boom! A 100 ideas start whizzing around as to how to use them. Will it be a quilt or cushion or even clothes?... There is always so much colour and inspiration to keep us smiling and it's great that so many of you have come in to the shop recently to enjoy it all with us.

This weeks oooooh moments have been unboxing the new My Summer House fabric range from Bunny Hill designs. Fresh and summery shades of aqua, cream and red that conjure up days in the garden. There are four new patterns to accompany the range too. Michelle's favourite ooooh moment was volunteering to open the boxes of the new Lanacot wools. Oh my goodness, what beautiful shades and luxury. 100% wool and available in several size options for both large and small projects.
Possibly our favourite time this week was seeing more ladies return to our regular group sessions for the first time. There were hugs and squeals of delight all around. A truly memorable scene to be part of. There really is magic in seeing people come together with a shared passion and purpose. We still have some spaces in regular groups as well as places on our workshops. We'd love to see you join us.
Plus lots of beautiful books have arrived including more of the Japanese Style Bead Embroidery book that flew out last time, and more Luna Lapin books from Sarah Peel and Daydream Journals from Tilly Rose.
Whatever you are sewing, have fun with it. Keep sewing and keep smiling.
We look forward to helping you with all your sewing needs and seeing you in the shop, or chatting on the phone or online. Best wishes Sally & the girls

I don't know about you but I want to spend time in this Bunny Hill Summer House, complete with it's white picket fence and blossoming trees and flowers. I can picture sitting in the shade of the tree sewing up a quilt made with these fabrics. Too scrumptious for words! We have spied a pretty selvedge too with a quote from Henry James - Summer Afternoon - the two most beautiful words in the English language.

Four delightful new patterns to make the most of this range, or indeed any others, are Summer Stars, My Summer House and a mini charm friendly cushion pattern. These are all by Bunny Hill Designs. There is also the My Neighbourhood Pattern by Wendy Sheppard that has been made using these fabrics. We can't wait to see these made.

If you are new to sewing with wool then it really is worth using these gorgeous 100% wool fabrics. So so soft and a tactile pleasure to use. Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched uses a lot of wool applique in her patterns and these would compliment her designs well. Anni uses bondaweb to prevent her wools from fraying, remembering to iron from the background fabric side rather than from the wool to help adhesion. Alternatively the wools can be prewashed to make them felt slightly. However, I am using Lanacot Wool in the A Day in Happyland quilt and have found them to not fray at all and I am using a whip stitch to sew them to the background. Available as fat 1/4, fat 1/8 and fat 1/16 bundles and also has a charm pack to suit each budget and project.

Seeing everyone sewing together and just generally having a great time is heartwarming. The laughter and chat coming from our workshop space has been uplifting, and they do actually manage to be productive too!
If you would like to join other like minded stitchers in a relaxed and friendly space then consider joining a regular monthly group or two, or attend our workshops. We have a few places left on two of Gail Pan's workshops in July. This is likely to be the last time she teaches in the UK so it really is now or never if you're sitting on the fence. She is a very lovely person and we are so excited that she is back with us this year.
There are some other beautiful offerings from Cat Rowe, Caroline Michelle and our very lovely colleague, Mary. Click on the image to see all our groups and classes and give us a call to book your place.

It's always a pleasure to receive books and these are some particularly lovely ones. Slow stitching with Tilly Rose in her books, creating journals and vintage inspired pieces. Charming Jelly Roll Quilts - using Jelly rolls in more creative ways. We also have more of the Bead Embroidery Book that sold out within hours last time and the popular Paint with Thread.
