Foraging and fresh air

We all hope that this past week has been a good one for you. In between the sun and showers, it has seen us busy with kit making and unboxing several deliveries bringing a mixed selection of fabrics, books and threads. A special excitement for us is that one of our all time favourite panels has been reprinted and has arrived.........12 Days of Christmas, by Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched, is back in stock after our suppliers managed to negotiate a reprint.

Also in our deliveries was a selection of fabrics by Sue Zipkin. Wild Wonder has a foraging theme with fungi and foliage prints along with watercolour blenders. Plus we have two new books, The Art of Bead Embroidery - Japanese Style 2 by Margaret Lee and Alice's Wonderland Sampler Book by Alice Caroline, and also a card deck of embroidery stitches by Betty Barnden.

We have some new workshops booked with our colleague Mary, Open Studios with local artists at the end of May, as well as an opportunity to join one of our local quilting groups on a coach trip to The Festival of Quilts at The NEC in August. Full details below.

Next weekend is a Bank Holiday and we are having a sale to celebrate. This includes ex display sewing machines, end of rolls and other bits and pieces. More info below.

Have a great weekend and week ahead.
We look forward to helping you with all your sewing needs and seeing you in the shop, or chatting on the phone or online.
Best wishes
Sally & the girls
Alice Caroline products have been really popular since we started to stock them, and we now have her brand new book - Alice's Wonderland Sampler Quilt Book. This exquisite book combines a variety of quilting techniques in one stunning sampler quilt, featuring 100 blocks. Using a variety of machine and hand-sewing techniques, this quilt will improve your sewing skills and be enjoyed as an heirloom piece for years to come.
We also now stock a large range of Alice Caroline Liberty Tana Lawns and kits.
Look at these funky fungi. We adore these fabrics from Sue Zipkin. Various mushrooms, dragonflies and foliage in muted greys, blues, reds and greens. We are not certain what variety of fungi are on these designs but our colleague Emma would know. She is the author of the foraging books that we stock. When she isn't with us at the shop she is leading foraging walks and works with Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall at River Cottage. Emma is extremely knowledgeable and the books are excellent.
These two embroidery products are very different in nature but both beautiful and useful. The amazing and intricate bead embroidery in the book from Margaret Lee is absolutely stunning, and introduces techniques to further enrich your experience and skills in Japanese-style bead embroidery, allowing your creativity to flourish.
The Card Deck of Essential Embroidery Stitches is a very useful addition to your library. 50 colourful cards, each showcasing an individual embroidery stitch. On the front of each 140 x 85mm (3.3 x 5.5 inch) card is a colour photograph of the finished stitch, then simply flip the card over to reveal a clear illustration and step-by-step written instructions for that particular stitch.
We asked and we asked. The suppliers and manufacturers listened. So we are pleased that we have secured some more Anni Downs 12 Days of Christmas Panels. These are versatile panels that can be kept as they are and simply quilted as a small quilt or wallhanging, embellished with embroidery or buttons and beads. Sally used one to make festive bunting and others have made placemats, cushions or pieced the individual images with other fabrics to make a bigger quilt. Previously, customers have purchased several at a time, to make bunting to sell on craft stalls and as Christmas presents. This is likely to be the last time they are available.
Mary has some delightful projects ready to teach over the next few months. These include a handy mini messenger bag, an ultimate needle case, her beautiful Travel Journal and an Introduction to English Paper Piecing. Click on the button or photo for details.
