Pretty patterns and porcelain
How are you this week? Have you had lots of sewing fun? Sally has had a few days away and has been busy making a quilt using the gorgeous Chelsea Garden. We now have the precuts and they are beautiful. Michelle has been sewing A Day in Happyland by Hatched and Patched, with its lovely wool applique, Mary and Mandy have both been working on One Little Flower by Gail Pan and Sarah has continued to make her gorgeous fleece dog onesies and collars. We are never sat idle when we're away from the shop. We get so inspired daily if only we could sew at work.........

This week we have enjoyed welcoming more ladies back to our regular groups. What a joy it is to reconnect with familiar faces and see what they have been creating. We still have some spaces left on groups, so if you would like to join in then let us know and we will find a place for you.

In our arrivals this week have been utterly delightful porcelain buttons featuring birds, bugs and sewing images. Really beautiful finishing touches for special projects. We also had the Chelsea Garden precuts and full fat 1/4 bundles to make the Pieced Treasures Quilt. From America we had a pattern delivery including projects from Kathy Schmitz and Heart to Hand. From Australia we had the latest issue of Tilda Lovers Club. A pretty bag pattern that uses a Jubilee Charm pack.

Our sad news this week is the closing of Quiltmania as a business. What a huge contribution they have made to the quilting and sewing world over the last 27 years. Their magazines and books are among some of our most popular products and they will be very sorely missed by us and I am sure you too. We share the official announcement below. We will all miss opening the boxes of Simply Vintage, Quiltmania, Simply Moderne and the sumptuous and inspiring books.

Whatever you are sewing, have fun with it. Keep sewing and keep smiling.
|
We look forward to helping you with all your sewing needs and seeing you in the shop, or chatting on the phone or online. Best wishes Sally & the girls

Oh my goodness! Look at these stunning porcelain buttons. Handmade in Dorset by Caroline Barnes. Each button is handmade from porcelain clay and is decorated using platinum or coloured decals with a glazed finish. The images are created from Caroline’s illustrations & photographs, inspired by vintage print, botanical drawings & wildlife. Sold in themed sets the designs may vary slightly but are all beautiful.

We have a restock of all of the popular Kathy Schmitz patterns. The super Simply Sweet booklet filled with 64 designs. Each design fits nicely within a 2″ circle. Deck the Boughs has 12 festive hand embroidery designs to make sweet ornaments, about 2″ each. Scented Christmas Bowlies are mini cushions measuring from 4 3/4″ x 6″ to 5″ x 8″ that can be filled with cloves and Christmas spices to fill your home with festive aromas. Mmmmm, delicious.

At long last we have got our mitts on more of the Season Samplers. We enjoyed making samples of these for the shop. The patterns are suitable for a confident beginner but still fun for the more experienced stitcher. Available singly or a set of four.

Essential for stitching the Kathy Schmitz designs are the beautiful DMC stranded cottons. We have a vast selection of colours including variegated ones which are particularly suited to the Season Samplers.

There is still time to apply for our part time sales assistant role & it has been lovely to meet a few already interested. We would love to hear from you if you think you'd be happy being paid to work in our colourful and inspiring shop. We have a lot of fun and laughter while working. If you have a little flutter of excitement at the thought then get in touch. Full training will be given so it's more important to find the right person than to have a raft of qualifications or experience.

It's with great sadness that we bid you farewell as Quiltmania closes its doors this evening, 24 April. I'd like to thank you so much for all the joy you've brought me over the past 27 years. Readers, Gastons, artists, designers, collectors, shops and all my collaborators have contributed to making the world of quilting more beautiful, joyful and alive, and I've been delighted to share it with you. A new page is being turned, but you will be able to download issue 160, which we prepared but were unable to print, and of course all the instructions for completing the Mystery Quilt, which will be available to download free of charge from our website until 31 May.
|
I bid you farewell with these few words, which I hope will console you: Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened ! I'll be sticking to my guns and getting back to quilting, but for those of you who come to the Pour l'Amour du Fil show, of course I'll be at my post to welcome you from 16 to 19 April 2025 with lots of pretty quilts to admire. So take care of yourselves, keep quilting and we'll meet up again in one form or another, because that's the cycle of life!
