Almost there!
Hello once more. We hope that your week has been kind to you. We are on the home straight here at the shop. Our shop shelves are stocked and looking lovely, our office and stock room is more organised and efficient, and the workshop space is almost clear and ready to be filled with lots of creative souls gathering to sew together. Regular groups will be starting very soon and we will be in touch to let you know a start date.
|
We are almost there too with the weather. There has been more rain and wind but the promise of brighter days is ever more apparent. The days are longer and the nights shorter and we can see new life everywhere. Easter is early this year but there is still time to make baskets or bunnies and other spring time fun projects.

Lots of boxes of fabric have been arriving with three new collections to drool over. The lovely Janet Clare has a stunning new collection called Bluebell, in blues, greens and teals with a new pattern Petal to accompany the range. Another Liberty range has been cut and put away. York Fern is a collection of blenders in beautiful shades. The perfect accompaniment to our other Liberty fabrics. Lella Boutique has a new range Old Glory - we have some of the fabrics in faded red, blue and silver.
|
The big excitement though as been the appearance of the latest edition of Homespun magazine with the first part of the Anni Downs BOM Sunshine & Lollipops. We have extra copies available if you wish to grab a copy. The other latest BOM from Anni Downs is A Day in Happyland. It started before Christmas but we have both the pattern and the first four wool packs in stock so can be started at any point.
|
We look forward to helping you with all your sewing needs, either in the shop, online or on the phone. Best wishes Sally & the girls

Janet Clare spent a day learning how to make cyanotypes. A primitive form of photography and has a distinctive blue colour. Cyanotypes are made by treating a surface — paper, cloth or leather — with iron salts which then react to UV light. The process was originally used to document botanical specimens by placing them on treated papers and exposing them to the sun.
|
Janet has used this experience and process to create her gorgeous designs for this range. Jade, tea, mint green, indigo and Prussian blue script, botanicals and musical score. The pretty Petal Quilt pattern is a modern design showcasing the range and includes instructions for two sizes.

The latest edition of this lovely Australian magazine is in and on its way to our subscribers ready to start the new Anni Downs Block of the Month, Sunshine and Lollipops. Anni designed the quilt using Tilda Jubilee fabric. We have no more kits left but are happy to make up alternative versions with other fabrics. It is a pretty blend of piecing, stitchery and applique. We have the magazine, preprinted stitchery panels, DMC thread packs and on their way are templates for the circles and triangles.
|
There are plenty more projects in the magazine of course. It is always full of ideas.
|
The price online is for a single issue. If you wish to set up a subscription, save money and ensure you have each issue of the BOM then please contact us.

The York Fern collection from Liberty Fabrics has a dense foliage pattern in an elegant and subtle tone-on-tone design. Designed as a blender fabric, York Fern sits alongside our other Liberty prints. Traditionally screen printed onto Lasenby cotton, a soft base developed by Liberty Fabrics, specifically for quilting and craft projects.

Faded reds, blues and greys in stars and stripes. Lovely in a simple quilt or used as blenders with other fabrics. A rail fence quilt of stripes would be stunning.

The ultimate bunny friend to make is Luna Lapin and then all her friends. They can be hand sewn using our woolfelt The clothes are beautifully designed and are proper dressmaking on a miniature scale. We have seen some wonderful examples in our shop and many of our colleagues have made them and are happy to give handy hints and tips to anyone starting out.

We now have more patterns and the first four wool packs of this quirky BOM from Anni Downs. Wool applique and stitching on linen which is then appliqued onto a check background fabric. We started this BOM in December but it's never to late to join in and play catch up. The wool packs can be bought as a complete set and we will send out each part as they arrive from Australia, or they be set up as a monthly subscription to spread the cost. You can of course use fabric or felt for the applique. One customer showed us the block she made using our woolfelt on a lilac linen and it looks stunning. It can be good to be brave and think outside the box and put your own twist on things.
