Liberty update -
Welcome to our weekly catch up. I truly hope that you have been able to enjoy some sunshine this week. It has been glorious here. I even managed a paddle in a stream with the dogs. Everything seems so much brighter when the sun shines. Although it is quite nippy at night and those myriad of quilts we have stashed away become very useful. Whether you are keeping knees warm while snuggled on the sofa, enjoying a Spring picnic on the beach, lounging in a wicker chair in the garden or meditating on the carpet, quilts are so adaptable. Making our own quilts is fun, but seeing someone enjoying one we have gifted is just priceless. We forget the odd frustration of skipped stitches or missed points, and instead see the joy on the faces of cosy friends and family.

This week we have an update regarding the 150 Year celebrations of Liberty. Many of you participated in the event where we each made a 10" block to be used in their birthday quilt. We have just heard that they are creating a patchwork house sculpture. No images yet but all the blocks being used have been allocated a spot so you can see where you are placed. Full details below.
|
We also take a quick look at some of our favourite fabrics and threads below. Taking photos of our shelves looking pretty. We do love our shop and what we sell and the ooohs and aaaahs from customers visiting. We know some of you are unable to visit so we have brought the shop to you instead! There are some gaps appearing but we still have lots of deliciousness to see.
|
Don't forget that we still have 15% off across the shop excluding Sale items and there are plenty of bargains in the Sale categories. To get the discount please click on the coupon at the checkout. It is automatically applied in the shop.

Liberty received over 1,500 squares to use for their celebratory patchwork sculpture. That is a lot of seams to sew! They are creating a patchwork house. If you click on the blue button or the image above created by one of our customers, you can see the blog post about the event. It contains a link to a 'map' of where to find your block once it is on display. I have made a list of everyone who joined through our shop, I hope I haven't inadvertently left anyone out.

Since we are looking at the Liberty 150 Year collaboration, I thought it might be good to also look at our lovely Liberty fabrics. We have some gorgeous designs left on the bolt/per metre, as fat 1/4s, and both of the very popular Tana Lawn and cotton scrap bags. Below you can see scrap bags in the process of being put together. Mmmmmm!

Japanese wovens are some of our favourite fabrics. They are mainly a heavier weight cotton, with the appearance of linen with a closer weave, and make gorgeous clothes and bags. There are a few lighter weight cottons too in the familiar indigos, soft reds and pinks.

Look how delicious our shelves of Tilda Solids and Chambrays are. So yummy! The solids are a beautiful strong colour to use and the chambrays have a slight weave to them giving a softer tone but both are delightful to use. They coordinate so well with Tilda, or other, patterned fabrics or use alone for a more modern style quilt.

DMC stranded cotton is high quality thread that is usually used by dividing a cut length into separate strands depending on the project. Single strand is great for applique, especially with wool or wool felt, and very fine work. For most embroidery, two or three strands are used according to the look desired. There is such a diverse array of colours to choose from that there is bound to be exactly what you need. To order DMC online you can look at the colour chart and let us know your chosen colour numbers in the comments box. Full details are on the product page. We also make up thread packs for specific patterns but they can be used for other projects as they coordinate well.

Our regular groups are still running and plans are afoot to continue meeting in the future too. It will be lovely to see everyone sitting and sewing together again.

We also have a couple of classes left to book on to as well. Free motion fun making textile hearts with Caroline Michelle on May 28th and Coastal textiles, using various techniques, with Claire Houghton on May 22nd.
