What came first, the chicken, or the egg?..

The eternal question that seems to have no answer! Rest assured, there is no need to worry about the right response. Instead, just take a look at all our things chicken related. Sally has always loved chickens in her sewing projects so we do have quite a selection of patterns, fabrics and kits that include hens and cockerels, as well as other feathered friends. We even have eggs. Not the kind to make pancakes drizzled with golden syrup but the fabric variety!

This week saw a new tutor host a workshop at Coast and Country. Claire Houghton taught an eager group of ladies how to create stunning coastal textile art. See what they made below and maybe book on to her workshop in May so you can also create textile masterpieces. The session was relaxed, inspiring, fun, creative and productive.

Copies of the latest issues of both Inspirations and Homespun Magazines, flew off the shelves but luckily we were able to get a few more so no need to miss out! You can grab the final few copies below.

May your week ahead be filled with all things beautiful. We look forward to helping you with everything sewing related both online and in person.
Best wishes
Sally & the girls
Louise Nichols has these gorgeous kits and panels to embellish with beads, stitching, felt, fabric, ribbon, buttons, or all of the above! Some kits like the chicken bookmark are being discontinued so these are the last we have. Above are Chicken Bookmark, Chickens in the Garden and Hen House.
We have a few patterns of Lynette Anderson's Hens Live Here, Mrs Hen's Needlecase and Scissor Holder and Rise and Shine Wall hanging. The last two come as complete kits with pattern and all the fabric needed to make them. We are unable to restock Rise & Shine patterns which is such a shame so this is the last chance to buy them. Sarah, Michelle and Mandy at the shop are keen to make Rise and Shine and name all the hens after our staff members. Maybe you could do something similar with friends or family names.....

Below we have other Lynette Anderson bird themed projects, Tree of Life Quilt, Bird in a Basket Cushion, Sewing Bird Buttons and Pink Birdhouse Button.
Above we have Mary's very cheeky Pasty Thief cushion pattern, Sally's Spring Chicken cushion made using a charm or mini charm pack and Michelle's Funky Felt Chickens.
There is a pack for the chickens that includes the woolfelt, threads and buttons to make 3 of your own Funky Chickens. Of course you can also choose your own colours of felt to make chickens in your favourite colours.
These cute Easter Baskets are not only handy for the collection of Easter Eggs on hunts but the kits are available in chicken themed fabrics. A perfect pairing. The pattern and fabrics are included with the buttons and wadding.
What a gorgeous quilt this is by Poppie Cotton. It is sold as a kit with the fabric and pattern. Just delightful.
Above are our cheerful Backyard Happenings Bunting packs from Gail Pan. Spot the chicks and hens on the squares and coordinating fabric. Of course they can also be used to make a quilt, just omit the bunting tape and piece the squares together for a quick spring time quilt or wallhanging.

Below is a selection of just some of the bird themed designs from Gail, Springhurst Quilt, Sewing Bird Bag, Summertime Birds and Bluebirds in Spring.
This special 25 Year Anniversary of Homespun includes a collorative quilt designed by Helen Stubbings, Natalie Bird, Claire Turpin and others.
Gorgeous and inspiring Inspirations magazine. This issue includes projects from Trish Burr, Jo Butcher, Louise Sprigs and Margaret Light and others.
We have two products called Hello Spring. Above the wallhanging by Kathi Campbell of Heart to Hand for which we have a fabric pack. Below are the delightful fabrics from Makower. Both feature chickens and eggs!
In stock are a variety of bird buttons from Jackie Nichols, Bee Company and Lynette Anderson. All hand painted on wood and all add a beautiful finishing touch to projects, or can be utilised as a main feature. Please remember that they are wood so are great for decorative purposes but are not suitable for items that will need washing.
Just take a look at these extraordinary textile art pieces made by our ladies on the workshop on Wednesday with Claire Houghton. Every single lady attending went home with a finished framed picture and we think they all deserve to be in a gallery. The techniques were simple but so effective and Claire was a wonderful tutor. She is back teaching the class again on Thursday May 22nd. Spots are sure to be booked up quickly once these are seen.

We of course have lots of other workshops coming up. There are still a few places left on the Needle Felt workshop with Michelle on Tuesday 11th March and the Chinese Thread Book with Sue Bovington on the 18th March. Contact the shop to book.
