Making new friends and saying goodbye to some products...
Good morning. I am writing this newsletter while my heart is full after our gathering for our Liber Tea on Wednesday. What a beautiful way to spend a few hours, in the company of wonderful creative women, Liberty fabrics and cakes! It was such a delight to meet and talk all things Liberty, there were some incredible stories behind why our ladies were creating the blocks for the 150th Birthday celebration. It was a chance to talk to old friends and new, including two sets of mother and daughter attending together. We share some of the stories and photos below. We have also been blessed this week with several groups coming to visit us. Ladies who lunch at the neighbouring Olive Grove Bistro then pop in to have a good look around and fabric fumble! It is always so lovely to see stitching friends visit the shop. So much excitement.
|
We also have goodbyes. We had notice from a few suppliers and designers that some of their kits and patterns are being discontinued so we want to highlight them this week in case you have been wanting to buy one and don't want to miss out on the opportunity. Louise Nichols will no longer be producing her bookmark kits and some of her other kits, concentrating more on her panels for you to embellish as you wish, and her workshops. Corinne Lapierre is also discontinuing some older kits and some of our fabric packs will be discontinued as we are unable to get the patterns from the designers. There are some heavily discounted fabric packs included and they really are last chances to buy. All this makes room for the new stock that will arrive shortly so no need to be disheartened!
|
The last end of rolls are in our sale category. Most are fabrics that we are unable to get in stock again as they are from older ranges but there are some fabulous bargains to use in your own or charity quilts.
|
One local quilt group has arranged a coach trip to the Festival of Quilts this year, it was very successful last year, so if you are in Cornwall and would like to travel with them, look below for more details. Please note, this is organised by the group not us.
|
Sending warmth and happiness from all of us here. We look forward to helping you with everything sewing related both online and in person. Why not pop in for a browse and a fumble then go to the Olive Grove for cake or lunch, or both!

These are all such lovely kits that it is a shame we are unable to reproduce them once they are gone. There is something for everyone from the large quilts to the smaller banners and wall hangings. Most kits include the pattern. There are only 1 or 2 left of each one so if you are indecisive like me then now is the time to act more quickly!

Louise Nichols will no longer be selling her popular bookmark kits or the Swirly Birds and a few other kits. These are the last that we have available. Of course we have many more of her more recent kits still available as well including the beautiful spring Daffodils and Snowdrops.

Corinne Lapierre is discontinuing her individual 12 Days of Christmas Kits. They will only be available as a whole kit or as a book and felt pack. We will continue to stock all her other kits which are great for all abilities including beginners.

Wednesday saw a group of us meeting to start off and show our Liberty Blocks for the 150th Birthday Celebratory Supersize Quilt. The laughter and the stories flowed freely along with copious cuppas, cake and productivity.

One of our customers, Jill, loaned us her two Liberty dresses and a quilt she made using Liberty fabrics from her older Liberty clothes. We spotted several designs that are still produced today and Carol identified some that she'd found at home.

A beautiful Sawtooth star with Liberty Lawn depicting the William Morris Strawberry Thief. Sarah created a Sun Bonnet Sue block. Carol made a pieced applique funky flower on Wiltshire shadow with daughter, Michelle, lending a helping hand.

Ann is making a Liberty backed hexagon quilt. The tiny embroideries are worked on fabric from her mother's nightie. She is using the same idea for her Liberty block. Her block is in memory of her mum and celebrating her encouragement for Ann to sew.

Mary loves all things Liberty and each time she visits the store in Regents Street, London, she pats the wooden owl on the head, so her block showcases him. The owl and other characters can be found on the balustrade inside the store and include a monkey, frog and a pelican amongst others.

Clockwise from the top left. Michelle likes to fussy cut and paper piece and also made the sample yellow block to show different ways to lay out an Ohio Star. Mandy made the butterfly block in honour of her mum who loved butterflies. The block by Sarah is inspired by her love of Italian Greyhounds and Whippets. The Victorian lady has a 3d bustle skirt as a nod to when Liberty was established by Arthur Lasenby Liberty in 1875.

Siobhan has always loved little Liberty collectibles. They are super cute and even have their labels. She had a wonderful collection of characters.

Steph came with her mum Cheryl and fell in love with the Witlshire Tana Lawn. Cheryl was inspired to make a log cabin block using the more modern prints that reminded her of London Transport and the Underground map.
