Janet Clare Special

Hello and welcome to this weeks newsletter. All of us at the shop hope that you have had a wonderful week and have found time to be creative and sew. All of us are working on various projects. Michelle is working her way through A Day in Happyland when she isn't distracted by the latest fabrics or patterns, Mary is finishing off the Advent Box projects, Sally has recently finished the Magical Winterland Quilt and dreaming up ideas for the new ranges that are arriving. Mandy has completed her Chelsea Garden quilt, Sarah is making more characters from Luna Lapin complete with outfits and everyone else is turning their hands to other creative endeavours including embroidery and applique.

This week we are delighted to showcase the fabrics, patterns and books of Janet Clare. We have just taken delivery of her new nautical range- Longshore. In blues and creams it compliments To the Sea and is suitable for all her patterns as well as the new Good Tidings. To make room for the new range we have three of her older collections on sale. This includes Botanicals, Bon Voyage and Bluebell. All very different but gorgeous.

We have stocked Janet Clare fabrics and patterns for many years and she has visited us for beautiful experience days and workshops. She is very generous tutor and we would love to have her visit us again. A piece of advice she offered when she was here was to not be such harsh self critics of our work. We are all quick to show the imperfections in our projects so Janet says if you can't see it from 6 feet away then don't worry about it! Sound advice that we could all listen to I am sure. We can be so precious about minute details on a quilt but once it is on the bed or sofa and being used and loved then these details get lost in a jumble of snuggles.

We are also thrilled to have two beautiful magazines arrive - Homespun and Inspirations. They are filled with delightful patterns for patchwork, knitting, embroidery and crochet. In the same box were three Inspirations books -The Handpicked Collection Volumes 1, 2 and 3. Divine books crammed with full colour photographs of the most exquisite embroidery projects. Along with them we had our delivery of the new Sue Stichbury book - Calico and Stitch - Continuing My Little Ladies Stories.

Whatever this week has in store for you, we hope you have time for yourself to do what you love and to simply sew.

We look forward to helping you with all your sewing needs, either in the shop, online or on the phone.
Best wishes
Sally & the girls
After completing her Textiles and Fashion degree, Janet, seen above in her famous Artisan Apron, worked as a freelance designer for many years. She then trained to be an infant school teacher and had a very rewarding and enjoyable few years teaching reception classes.

Janet enjoys quilting, dressmaking, knitting, painting, drawing, gardening, baking and reading. She loves to make do and mend and being in her studio with her thrifted and hand-me down treasures. She has written 5 books with more in the pipeline, countless patterns and designed 23 fabric collections in collaboration with Moda fabrics.

"I like to be creative every day. Luckily, I don't like having my two arms the same length (doing nothing), so I can always find a little time for my sewing. I try to find joy in the mundane, and don't believe in keeping things for best." Janet Clare

So take a leaf out of Janet's book. Go out walking or shopping in your best outfit, use your best dinner set, wear your good underwear and find time each day to be creative.
Longshore is the latest nautical themed collection from Janet Clare. In her signature blues and creams, it is perfect for her new pattern Good Tidings. A pattern based on Courthouse Steps blocks with inspiring images and quotes embroidered in the centre of each block. It is jelly roll friendly and ideal for any lover of the sea or man in your life.
The fat 1/4 and fat 1/8 bundles are a sea of blue and they would work well teamed with the coordinating panel of the world map. Originally designed as the Newton pattern, which is not currently available, this map panel would make a simple quilt backed with fleece and bordered with the Longshore fabrics or a charm pack.
Longshore marries well with To The Sea and we still have some of this range in stock
We have several Janet Clare fabric collections in the sale now including Bluebell, above, plus Botanicals and Bon Voyage.
They are now from £3 a long or fat 1/4. Click on each image to see the categories.
Homespun magazine is always filled with lovely ideas to sew, embroider, crochet and knit. This month there is also a special interview with Anni Downs talking about her designs ideas and sewing tips, as well as the 5th part of her Block of the Month and a pattern from her for a EPP drawstring bag. There are plenty of other patterns to follow as well including Christmas makes.
Inspirations Magazine is jammed pack full of embroidery projects, complete with several exquisite photographs of each one. A real feast for the eyes. This edition contains several festive projects as well as intricate embroidered beetles and a frog. Absolutely stunning work.
These books need no selling, they are simply stunning. Definitely ones to snap up for a Christmas gift to yourself. Each book contains 10 -12 projects including stumpwork, beading, crewel work, silk embroidery, gold work and ribbon embroidery. Glorious.
