Enjoying the moment
Good morning. How are you this week? As the seasons change and we settle into the slower pace of life that Autumn brings after the hustle and bustle of Summer, we may have more time to sit to be mindful and creative. Slow hand stitching maybe, or making items to snuggle under as the nights begin to draw in more.
This week we have been inspired to slow down and Simply Be. The art of being in the moment that comes from taking our time and not rushing. The new fabric range from Anni Downs of Hatched & Patched, encapsulates this feeling of taking things easier. Simply Be contains quirky ditsy prints combined with a panel in two colourways that has words and phrases to remind us to live more simply. The panel images are in squares which invite us to be creative in how we use them. Simply Be-autiful!
Also new in are two festive patterns from Julia Gahagan. Winter Valley and Highland Village are so appealing. These mini quilts use a simple technique with fabric snippets glued and then trapped with quilting through a fine mesh layer. Another Simple yet effective project that can be hand or machine sewn.
Some of you may have children or grandchildren with you this coming week as Half Term is upon us. We have plenty of kits, buttons and books to keep little hands busy over the week. We love working with wool felt with children as it doesn't fray and comes in such a huge range of colours. We share some inspiration below.
We also have a restock of our Dress-it-Up buttons, ideal embellishments for cards, wall hangings, quilts and fully washable, plus Moda Scrap Bags too. Always great value for money, they are available in 100% cotton or 100% wool options. Handy stash builders.
Whatever this week has in store for you, we hope you have time for yourself to do what you love and to Simply Be. Quilters orders!
We look forward to helping you with all your sewing needs, either in the shop, online or on the phone. Best wishes Sally & the girls

'Simply Be' is a collection by Anni Downs to celebrate life and the simple things within it. This collection has a panel with words and images to depict this. Enjoy the simple things in life like relaxing in a bath, swinging from a tree and just hanging around. The soft, but fun colors encapsulate this theme. The variety of floral prints, geometrics and stripes can be used on their own or mixed together. Anything made from this collection will have a gentle and relaxed feel. It will leave you feeling uplifted and care free.

Each panel is approx 60cm wide with 28 images that can be cut into squares to use for large or small projects. Simply piece with alternate squares of coordinating fabrics for a simple quilt. Use individual squares for a card or a wall hanging. Or a pretty pocket. So many possibilities

Just look at these two gorgeous new mini quilt patterns from Julia Gahagan. We are in love! Julia uses a technique of shadow appliqué and quilting, where shapes are freely cut, glued to the background and then quilted with a layer of net over the top (net is included with the patterns). It is a really fun and easy technique suitable for all levels of stitcher, including beginners. Now, which one shall we make first?......

We have had a delivery of the delicious scrap bags from Moda. We have both wool scrap bags and cotton scrap bags. They both come in various colours and are a lucky dip item. In the latest batch the packs range from brights to pastels and everything in between.
The cotton bags are filled with large strips of a whole fabric range so they all coordinate and can be used for a quick quilt. They are the large pieces left from when layer cakes and charm packs are cut. So it is a very eco friendly way of using what was previously a waste project to make something beautiful and useful.
The wool packs contain 1/2lb or 225g of 100% wool pieces of sizes up to 5" square. They may be bright or muted, patterned or plain but are all beautiful and ideal for a variety of projects. Hatched and Patched uses a lot of wool scraps in their projects that includes pincushions and bags and quilts.
